The Constant Weeder // a playlist

I’m learning that when you grow things, there will be weeds. Always. I naively asked on my second day, while yanking mugwart out from under landscaping fabric, how often we would be doing this. ‘Constantly. You never stop weeding.’

Sunday I weeded peony buckets in the greenhouse. It was a poetically beautiful day without a cloud in sight and a crisp breeze rolling through the wide open doors. We always have music on but since I was alone I chose the album. With the faintest ache of Brooklyn homesickness, I put on The Lone Bellow (call it denial, but I still refer to them aloud as Zach Williams). I listened to their new record, twice.

These songs, in my opinion, are best live. They play with such power and emotion, and I think only a sliver of that comes through when recorded. The video doesn’t do it justice, but this one is for old Rockwood nostalgia sake.

So to start my collection of songs, I give you ‘A tree to grow.’

Weed on, weeder.
